From the stone age till now:

The thing I like about creating Black Lion Knives is feeling connected to generations of the past. More specifically, in a day and time when our rights as creatures of God are all but totally denied, it brings me hope to think of times past when life was  more organic and to be involved in the preservation of a masculine heritage where patriarchs were honored and not irreverenced at every opportunity. …and to be a part of something that I believe will someday be called upon again.

I began with rebuilding my dads air-force survival knife, then dabbled in traditional nordic blades and then celtic iron age knives; dirks, daggers and sgian’s, as well as old world mountain knives, …and well, needless to say I was hooked. 

Reading of the Scottish war for independance affirmed in me a need for more research and hard work. I realized this is about honoring those  honorable whose character is forged in adversity.

The beautiful, exotic hardwoods in rich, deep colors inspire me to bring out their grain and personality and allow them to take shape as I carve and sand them. And working with materials taken from the earth is a rewarding task. I have yet to find a greater form of worshiping the creator and again, honoring those who are worthy of such honor.
